A phenomenal start to the 2026 season for Carlos Alcaraz has tennis fans buzzing! But here's the real question: what's his secret weapon?
Beyond the numbers, we dive into the Spaniard's serving success, a key factor in his dominance.
February 25, 2026, marked a significant milestone for Alcaraz, who has won an impressive 90.8% of his service games this year.
Alcaraz's serve is a force to be reckoned with. With a 12-0 record and trophies from the Australian Open and Doha, he's on fire! An analysis by Infosys ATP Beyond The Numbers reveals that his improved serving has been the foundation of his success, propelling him forward in 2026.
But here's where it gets interesting: Alcaraz's serving prowess isn't just about big numbers. While he was already impressive last year, ranking sixth on the ATP Tour with an 87.6% win rate in service games, this year he's taken it to a whole new level.
The World No. 1 has made subtle yet significant improvements across the board. His first-serve percentage has increased from 65% to 68.3%, and he's winning slightly more points on both his first and second serves. Additionally, he's hitting more aces per match, averaging 6.1 compared to 4.3 last year.
Alcaraz's ability to defend his second serve is particularly impressive. He currently ranks third all-time, winning 56% of his career second-serve points, only behind tennis legends Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. This year, he's upped his game further, claiming 59.4% of his second-serve points.
While his first-serve winning rate of 74.3% might not be the highest on the ATP Tour, Alcaraz has consistently improved his all-around game, which has paid dividends.
In Doha, Alcaraz went undefeated in three of his five matches, not dropping serve once against Arthur Rinderknech, Karen Khachanov, and Arthur Fils. Excluding his semi-final against Andrey Rublev, he won an incredible 92.6% of his service games.
And this is the part most people miss: Alcaraz's return game, historically his strength, has been slightly below his career average this season. Yet, his improved serving has more than made up for it, leading to a perfect start to the year.
So, what do you think? Is Alcaraz's serving the key to his success, or is there more to it? Let's discuss in the comments and share your thoughts on this tennis sensation!
